Below, the editor will take you back to this period of history
The Development History of Qingdao Whiskey
This matter still has to start from 1912...
In 1912, German businessman Klaus established a distillery in Qingdao, using traditional European techniques to brew whiskey. It was at this time that China's first bottle of whiskey was born, thus ushering in a new era of Chinese whisky. The winery is located at No. 34 Hunan Road, Nanqu District, Qingdao, and was later invested by German merchant Fuchang Foreign Company.
In 1930, it was acquired by Deutsche Mercantile and named Qingdao Meikou Distillery. At this time, whiskey was mainly supplied to foreign sailors, after all, the acceptance of this type of alcohol by the Chinese people was not very high. However, the brand strength of Meikou gradually subsided at this time.
In 1947, the Nationalist Party's bureaucratic capital acquired the affiliated Qingdao Brewery. At this time, the acceptance of foreign wine among the Chinese people increased and gradually became a common drink in the upper class society. It was not until the liberation of Qingdao in June 1949 when it was taken over by the Chinese People's Government that whiskey and other foreign wines gradually entered the public's view. In order to increase public acceptance, the brewery also continued to use the American diamond shaped wine label.
At that time, the liquor of Meikou Distillery could be described as "a hundred flowers blooming". In 1954, Premier Zhou Enlai also used Meikou Distillery champagne to entertain foreign guests at the Geneva Conference.
Until later renamed as Qingdao Winery in 1959, and in 1964, Qingdao Winery separated from Qingdao Brewery. The diamond shaped wine label of Meikou was only abandoned, but with the entry of foreign whisky brands, Chinese whisky gradually fell into a disadvantage on an inexperienced basis, and Qingdao Winery also faced multiple closures and gradually fell silent.
Until 2005, Qingdao Winery was acquired by Qingdao Huadong Grape Winery. A considerable portion of wine has started to be resold to the public, and a small portion of whiskey has also started to be sold to some private buyers. In 2008, the century old underground wine cellar of Qingdao Winery was awarded the title of "Qingdao Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit"
Do you think the story of Qingdao whiskey ends here? No, far from it

Centennial Classic. Cellar Double Barrel. Master Selection Three Series
This is a good start. In the past two years, domestic liquor giants have also started to layout their whiskey categories, launch Chinese style whiskey products, and establish factories in China. Of course, domestic whiskey faces many problems, and the current market is not perfect there. However, domestic whiskey is like a newborn beast that needs to grow after being reborn from the ashes. After all, a whisky seed that could have ignited China was once ignited in Qingdao's modern times. Sooner or later, Chinese whiskey will sell well worldwide!!!
